Kenya Sugar lines up 1,250 tonnes a day factory in Narok

Kenya Sugar Factory Limited is planning to set up a 1,250 tonnes of cane per day factory in Narok County, adding to the growing list millers investing in new factories to meet rising demand of the sweetener. The firm has applied to the National Environment Management Authority (Nema) for the approval of the investment, which will also involve installing equipment and machinery for sugar cane processing using state-of-the-art-technology.

The establishment will consist of workshops, administrative offices, weighbridge house, cane yard, mill house, powerhouse, sugar house, effluent treatment and recycling plant, molasses tank, agricultural offices, bagasse silos, fuel station and other associated amenities and facilities. Nema has published the environmental impact assessment study report for public input. The factory will be established in Lolgorian Ward, Transmara subcounty, Narok County, adding to the growing list of firms investing in new plants or expanding their production capacity.

“The National Environment Management Authority invites members of the public to submit oral or written comments within 30 days from the date of publication of this notice to the Director-General, Nema, to assist the Auth in the decision-making process regarding this project,” said Mamo Mamo, director gene at Nema in a gazette notice.
